As anyone familiar with raising animals knows, the process of buying them and tending to their needs can be quite costly. It’s not uncommon for the process to cost thousands of dollars, which keeps many students who are interested in raising animals from being able to participate in such a great experience. To enable students in the Tomball ISD FFA program who are as passionate about raising animals as Hudson was, the Folkerts family founded the Hudson Folkerts Memorial Foundation (HFMF) in August 2011 to assist with these expenses.  HFMF also awards college scholarships annually to Tomball ISD high school graduates who are interested in pursuing a college degree in the field of Agriculture.

A Helping Hand

Hudson Folkerts Memorial Foundation, Inc. (HFMF) was established in August of 2011 to honor a young man’s love for animals and working at his ranch. HFMF is accomplishing this in two ways. First, HFMF assists students who are interested in raising animals for Tomball ISD’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) program who may not have the financial resources to buy, feed and shelter an animal. Students in Tomball ISD’s FFA program can raise a variety of animals such as steers, pigs, lambs, goats, rabbits, chickens and turkeys. Following the completion of an application and meeting certain established criteria, Tomball ISD students are able to experience the benefits and rewards of raising an FFA animal and competing at the annual Tomball FFA show. Second, HFMF awards college scholarships to Tomball ISD high school graduates who are interested in pursuing a degree in the field of Agriculture at a college of their choice. These students can continue to apply for an HFMF scholarship in each of their college years.  Following the completion of an application and an interview, a student is considered for a scholarship based on these results, his or her level of community service and his or her level of volunteer work with the Foundation.

Since the Foundation was established in late 2011, HFMF has awarded over $1.1 million in animal scholarships and college scholarships.  Because of this, we know that the memory of Hudson Folkerts will live on for many years to come.

The Hudson Folkerts Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is therefore considered exempt from federal income tax by the Internal Revenue Service.
